چکیده
This paper studies the constant modulus (CM) criterion speci cally for the case where the time span of the fractionally-spaced equalizer (FSE) is less than that of the channel. Hence, there necessarily exists an error in the equalized signal. Results for the binary case (Part I) are extended to multi-level signalling. This analysis is connected with the previous work of Fijalkow et al. on misadjustment of a CM receiver to suggest a nite interval of acceptable FSE length which shows that a longer FSE may not be better than a shorter FSE{in some cases, matching the FSE length to that of the channel may not reduce the MSE to a prescribed threshold, while a shorter FSE may be successful in achieving this threshold.

Equalizing with Fractionally-spaced Constant Modulus and Second-order-statistics Blind Receivers
This dissertation is concerned with the blind, cold-start equalization of a closed-eye, fractionally-spaced channel, so that the error rate is suuciently reduced for transfer to a decision directed mode. First, a simulated comparison study of recently proposed second-order-statistics (SOS) algorithms and the constant modulus algorithm (CMA) shows a severe lack of robustness for the SOS algorith...
متن کاملRobustness of blind fractionally-spaced identification/equalization to loss of channel disparity
In this contribution, we address the comparison of Subspace (SS), Linear Prediction (LP) and Constant Modulus (CM) identi caton/equalization algorithms in terms of robustness to loss of Fractionally-Spaced channel disparity. We show that SS procedure leads to an inconsistent channel estimation. Investigating a left-inverse channel estimation, we show that LP results in the estimation of the so-...
متن کاملRobustness to fractionally-spaced equalizer length using the constant modulus criterion
This correspondence studies robustness properties of the constant modulus (CM) criterion and the constant modulus algorithm (CMA) to the suboptimal but practical situation where the number of fractionally spaced equalizer coefficients is less than what is needed to remove all intersymbol interference (ISI). Hence, there necessarily exists an error in the equalized signal. Relationships between ...
متن کاملA Modified T/2 Fractionally Spaced Coordinate Transformation Blind Equalization Algorithm
When T/2 Fractionally Spaced blind Equalization Algorithm based Constant Modulus Algorithm (T/2-FSECMA) is employed for equalizing higher order Quadrature Amplitude Modulation signals (QAM), it has disadvantages of low convergence speed and large Mean Square Error (MSE). For overcoming these disadvantages, a Modified T/2 Fractionally Spaced blind Equalization algorithm based on Coordinate Trans...
متن کاملFractionally spaced equalization using CMA: robustness to channel noise and lack of disparity
In the noise-free case, the fractionally spaced equalization using constant modulus (FSE-CM) criterion has been studied previously. Its minima were shown to achieve perfect equalization when zero-forcing (ZF) conditions are satisfied and to be able to still achieve fair equalization when there is lack of disparity. However, to our best knowledge, the effect of additive channel noise on the FSE-...
